The historic and mythological trees of the south of France, from the cedar woods, the plane avenues, the olive groves and the fruit orchards are also deeply ingrained in my personal history and sense of well-being.

Each tree tells an inspiring Mediterranean story.

The orchards around my village are a rich source of inspiration in winter and spring, because of the interesting rhythms and shapes created by the branches. The blossom smells fantastic too. These orchards are pruned by hand in a traditional style to maximise and cup the spread of the branches.

Sometimes I spend time playing with my photography to see where later, the painting will take me. Here, superposing the images of this avenue of planes.

I walked here daily during the lockdown of spring 2020. Rain or shine, these woodlands on a small crest of garrigue 'arrière-pays' replenished my creative imagination and calmed me.
